(Picture above) My view as I stand on the roof of the tallest free-standing building in Tokyo with a great view.
So you want to go to Tokyo? Tokyo, the capital of Japan is one of the best cities I’ve ever been to. To understand this you will need to go there yourself but I will do my best to explain why to go and what to do!
This video should about sum it up for anyone wondering if they should see the Shibuya crossing. I mean, have you ever seen that many people crossing the street in one place? Maybe in New York City but definitely not anywhere else. This place is iconic and if you’re going to Tokyo you might as well check it out.
A little secret: If you go to the Starbuck’s on the 2nd floor of the department building you can get a great video of the crossing from the window. You’ll also meet 100 other tourists doing the exact same thing.
When you visit Roppongi make sure to visit the Tokyo Skytree http://lang.tokyo-skytree.jp/en/
The tower is 250m high and gives you a 360-degree view of the city that you would be crazy to miss out on. The tickets to the top of the tower are as displayed:
|18 and over||12 – 17 years old||6 – 11 years old||4 – 5 years old|
The prices are not too bad for an experience that you will never forget. The view up there is amazing and if you have an actual camera instead of the iPhone like I had you can get amazing shots.
There is also an art gallery at the top of the Skytree and a restaurant. Fair warning the restaurant is a little expensive if you couldn’t guess. Pro tip: go to the restaurants on the lower level floors for some amazing food.
3. Eat Ramen Noodles
At least one time while you’re in Tokyo you should go to any ramen shop for a good filling meal. This ramen is heavenly compared to all the instant ramen people usually eat. I’m not saying everyone does but most do and I did it too until now. I won’t ever go back.
4. Try new Beer
Find Yourself a restaurant called “Kirin City”(Kirin City) it was one of my favorite restaurants while in Tokyo. They are everywhere and they serve great food and beer. In the picture, I compare my beer on the left to my friends on the right. It was like drinking out of a goblet.
Kirin is definitely my favorite but this is given that I’m no beer connoisseur.
5. Go Party or See Temples
Do you want to go out partying with your friends for a night? There’s one recommended club that I’ve only heard good things about. This club is called Ageha. This place has 3! floors for dancing and 3! bars. Need I say more? Probably not. They change their themes constantly and you’re bound to have a good time.
Maybe you want to relax and get some great pictures. Go to Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo. This is one of Tokyo’s oldest temples dating back to 628… A great location for all your tourism needs and to get some of that travel bug off your shoulder.
